Role summary:
The incumbent is held accountable for his/her own acts and omissions.
Nursing activities form part of a nursing regime that is planned and initiated by the Registered Nurse.  The Enrolled Nurse will be responsible for the assessment, care and meeting of patient needs and will also be responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of appropriate programmes of care to ensuring high quality patient care.

KEY WORK OUTPUT AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

CONSISTENCY OF CARE

Administration Management
• Ensure that all documentation is maintained timeously and accurately, reflecting patient care.
• Ensure all stock is charged appropriately.
• Assist with file compilation.

Governance, quality and risk management
• Maintain a therapeutic, clean and safe environment that is free from medico-legal hazards.
• Adhere to Netcare medical waste management principles and all other waste management principles.
• Maintain a safe working environment in accordance with the Machinery and Occupational Safety Act.
• Report potential/actual risks identified.
• Ensure all stock is well controlled.
• Responsible for ensuring correct use, cleaning and storage of equipment.
• Report equipment needing repair or replacement to sister-in-charge.
• Maintain professional conduct and standards at all times in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
• Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
• Acts in a supervisory capacity over ENA’s.

Patient care
• Practice patient care according to his/her Scope of Practice and assume total responsibility for these activities.
• Contribute to the holistic care of patients.
• Participate in ward/unit’s quality improvement programme.
• Attend handover of report at shift commencement.
• Effective communication with patients’ regarding their care.
• Promotion of patient overall health and wellbeing.
• Practice the principles of infection prevention and all standard precautions.
• Promote and maintain good public relations with patients, relatives and visitors.
• Execute all procedures according to hospital standards.
• Refer all complaints from patients and doctors to sister-in-charge of the unit.
• Carry out all departmental duties as assigned by supervisors.

SKILLS PROFILE

A grade 12 matric certificate is essential.

NQF lever 3 or 4 nursing qualification.

Registration with the South African Nursing Council as an Enrolled Nurse.

Compliance with the SANC code for an Enrolled Nurse and all applicable health care legislation.

Relevant experience in Surgical ward would be an advantage.

Thorough knowledge of general and specialised nursing theory and practice.

Job Summary:

The Trauma Trained Clinical Nurse is a professional who remains responsible for the assessment, planning and implementation of individualized and holistic nursing care of a patient, their families or the community, performed either directly or indirectly.

The incumbent ultimately coordinates patient care within the concept of the multi-disciplinary health team.

The incumbent also fulfils the role by the use of scientifically based nursing theories and processes, treating the patients as a physical, social and spiritual individual, and by use of educational and technical means applicable to health care practice.

Key Work Output and Accountabilities:

Assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient’s needs.

Provide quality nursing care in terms of both physical and psychological interventions to patients on a general medical ward.

Work collaboratively with other disciplines in providing holistic care to the patient.

Participation in meetings such as care plan meetings, hand over meetings, discharge meetings etc.

Documentation according to policies and procedures.

Adhere to policies and procedures regarding reporting mechanisms.

Respects patient’s rights to privacy, dignity and safety.

Acts as a liaison between patients, families, doctors and multidisciplinary team members.

Provides emotional support to patients and their families.

Support in maintaining a clean, well organized and safe environment for patients.

Inherent Requirements:

Registered as a Professional Nurse with the South African Nursing Council or equivalent NQF level 7 qualification.

Registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Registered Nurse.

Post-basic qualification in Trauma.
Previous experience working in an Emergency/Trauma Unit.

Previous private healthcare experience essential.

Capacity to implement and maintain standards of health practice required from all accredited bodies and appropriate health legislation
